Bridge & Gantry Scaffolding in Kent & the South East

Bridge and Gantry Scaffolding Systems by Just Scaffolding Ltd

Just Scaffolding Ltd designs and installs temporary bridge and gantry scaffolding systems across Kent, London and the South East. We provide safe, structurally engineered overhead protection and access solutions for construction sites, public highways, building entrances, pedestrian walkways and any environment where works at height must be carried out above an active or restricted area that cannot be closed for the duration of the programme.

Bridge and gantry scaffolding presents some of the most technically demanding challenges in temporary works design. A structure that must simultaneously support working loads above, protect pedestrians or traffic below and remain stable under the dynamic conditions of an active construction site requires precise engineering, careful planning and a scaffolding contractor with the experience to deliver it correctly. Just Scaffolding Ltd has the technical capability, accreditation and track record to design and erect bridge and gantry systems that meet these demands without compromise.

With over 40 years of combined scaffolding experience, CISRS qualifications to NVQ Levels 2 and 3, CHAS registration, Safe Contractor accreditation and £10,000,000 public liability insurance, we approach every bridge and gantry installation as the complex, safety critical structure it is. Span calculations, load distribution, tie configurations and public protection requirements are all assessed and confirmed before a single component is erected. Every bridge and gantry system we install is formally inspected, fully documented and handed over as a compliant, signed off structure before any works begin above or below it.

Your Bridge and Gantry Scaffolding Questions Answered

Bridge and gantry scaffolding is among the most technically demanding temporary structures a scaffolding contractor will be asked to design and erect. The combination of spanning loads, public protection obligations, traffic and pedestrian management requirements and the structural demands of an active working platform above makes this a category of work where experience, accreditation and technical rigour are non-negotiable. Just Scaffolding Ltd brings over 40 years of combined scaffolding experience to every bridge and gantry project. We are CISRS trained to NVQ Levels 2 and 3, CHAS registered and Safe Contractor approved, with £10,000,000 public liability insurance. We operate seven days a week across Kent, London and the South East and we approach every bridge and gantry installation with the engineering precision and compliance focus it demands.

Bridge and gantry scaffolding systems are used across a wide range of construction, maintenance and public realm applications including overhead protection gantries above active pedestrian footpaths and public highways, scaffold bridges spanning building entrances, vehicle access routes and service roads that must remain operational during works, working platforms above live railway lines, roads and waterways where ground level access is restricted or prohibited, protection structures above occupied retail units, restaurants and commercial premises during façade or upper storey works, temporary overhead protection for events, civic works and public infrastructure maintenance, and bridge scaffolding for structural inspection and repair works on existing bridges and elevated structures. We assess each application individually and design a system appropriate to the specific spanning, loading and protection requirements of the project.

Bridge and gantry systems must be designed to carry both the working loads imposed from above and the self weight of the structure itself across the full unsupported span. This requires careful calculation of the bending moments, shear forces and deflection characteristics of the spanning members, taking into account the bay spacing, standard heights, the weight and distribution of any sheeting or decking applied to the structure and the dynamic loads imposed by operatives and materials during active works. Where the span or loading requirements exceed standard scaffold design parameters, a structural engineer’s design and approval will be required and we will coordinate that process as part of the project setup. We do not erect bridge or gantry structures without confirmed load and span calculations.

Public safety is the primary design consideration for any bridge or gantry scaffold erected above or adjacent to a public area. Every installation includes a formal risk assessment covering the erection and dismantling phases as well as the operational period of the structure. Where works are above active footpaths or roads, we coordinate with the relevant highways authority, local authority and principal contractor to implement appropriate traffic management, pedestrian diversion and public protection measures during erection and dismantling. The completed gantry or bridge structure is designed to provide continuous overhead protection to the required standard for the full duration of works above.

Yes. On longer duration projects and phased programmes, the spanning or protection requirements of a bridge or gantry system may need to change as works progress across the building or structure. We remain available throughout the project to extend, reconfigure or adapt the bridge or gantry system in coordination with the site programme and any traffic or pedestrian management arrangements in place. All adaptations are formally inspected and documented before the modified structure is returned to service. Programme changes that affect the bridge or gantry configuration are communicated to us as early as possible to allow adequate planning and coordination time.

Bridge and Gantry Scaffolding That Keeps the Site Moving and the Public Safe

The defining characteristic of a well-designed bridge or gantry scaffold is that it solves two problems simultaneously. It provides a safe, stable working platform for the operatives above and uninterrupted, protected passage for the pedestrians, vehicles or operations below. Achieving both outcomes on a live site, within a public environment and to a confirmed programme requires a level of planning and technical precision that goes well beyond standard scaffold erection. Just Scaffolding Ltd approaches every bridge and gantry project with that level of rigour. We coordinate with principal contractors, highways authorities, structural engineers and public protection teams from the earliest stage of the project to ensure the system is designed correctly, erected safely and managed professionally throughout. When the site must keep moving and the public must be kept safe, the scaffold must deliver both without compromise.

Working With Just Scaffolding

1

Structural Assessment, Span Calculation and Quotation

Contact us with your site address, the nature of the spanning requirement, the area to be protected below, working loads above, programme dates and any highways or public realm considerations. We will assess the structural and public protection requirements, confirm span and load calculations and provide a clear, itemised quotation with full scope detail and no hidden costs. Where a structural engineer's input is required we will advise at this stage.

2

Coordinated Erection, Inspection and Formal Handover

Our CISRS-trained team will erect the bridge or gantry scaffold system to your agreed programme and specification, coordinating with site management, highways teams and public protection arrangements throughout the erection phase. A formal structural inspection is carried out on completion and the system is handed over with full documentation confirming load capacity, span compliance and regulatory sign off before works above or pedestrian and vehicle movement below resumes.

3

Ongoing Management, Adaptation and Removal

Throughout the project we carry out regular structural inspections, respond promptly to any programme changes affecting the bridge or gantry configuration and remain available for system adaptations as works develop. On completion, we coordinate dismantling with site management and highways teams, removing all components safely and efficiently and leaving the area fully clear and signed off.
